Wodapalooza Or Bust
I’ve been wondering as to what my next goal will be. I’ve gone back and forth on this since I’ve heard about it since I’m still very much a beginner when it comes to CrossFit. However, Wodapalooza has a “Beginner” division and it’s perfect for me! I’m excited to share with you guys my goal to make it to Wodapalooza!
What is Wodapalooza?
Wodapalooza is a fitness festival held every year in Miami. You have the chance to complete on the same floor as professional athletes. It’s a fun way to get some sun and fitness in at the same time. It has grown to be a four day festival packed with all kinds of events including seminars with industry professionals, spectator workouts, and the ability to shop some cool vendor booths!
How Do You Qualify?
There is an Online Qualifier where you perform a series of workouts in two weeks and submit your score. A select number of top scores in each division get the invitation to compete at Wodapalooza in Miami. There is also an Open Registration available to those that compete in the Online Qualifier. Those spots are first come, first serve so it’s basically a race to sign up once registration is open. As I’ll be competing in the Beginner division, I’m aiming to be in the top 20 spots.
This is actually a big goal. I’m sure there will be many athletes competing across the country and this will be the first time I’ve done anything like this other than the CrossFit Open. To participate, I’ll have to record my workouts and have a coach judge my time. It adds on some pressure and it’s quite scary to think about actually. However, I feel like this is something I want to try because why not? CrossFit is something that I’ve learned to love and I love how I can continue to push myself as an athlete.
What If You Don’t Make It?
If I don’t make it through either route, I’ll be bummed but I’m sure my husband wouldn’t mind taking a trip to Miami in January to still go to the festival! However, I’m going to give it my all and try my absolute hardest. I’ve been working hard on my weaknesses and I know that there is always room for improvement. If I don’t make it this year, I’ll still be happy knowing that I gave it my absolute best. Plus this will be a good test of my growth as I’ll have been doing CrossFit for about a year around the time Online Qualifiers comes around.
This is my big audacious goal at the moment and I’m so freaking excited. I think we all need some goals like this to work towards that excite us and even give us the nervous feeling in our stomach. The Online Qualifiers take place in October and I’ll definitely recap my experience next month!
