Welcoming A New Life Season!

Hello there friends! It’s safe to say that it’s been such a long time since I’ve been here. Life got crazy in the last part of 2020 but honestly I was so focused on being intentional and soaking it all in that the blog took the back seat. The months of October through December brought me so much joy and experiences that I didn’t think I would have been able to get in a pandemic. I was very lucky indeed!

I got to run a race in October! It was my first official trail race and lets just say, the trails gave me a warm welcome. The temps were unseasonably warm for October so it almost felt like an early summer race. The trails were so sandy and there were those sticker things EVERYWHERE. There was a point where I was glad I was only running the 10k. Oh and the part where I crossed a stream and not only got wet but sliced open my leg and bled for a majority of the race. To this day, I have a nice scar from that. Y’all, it was an experience but it felt so awesome to have been able to race! Trail Racing Over Texas took great precautions and I hope to join in a few more races this year!

November brought an amazing group of people in my life. After much consideration, I joined a CrossFit gym and I immediately fell in love. The gym I used to go to had different programming so I was a bit nervous in how I would fit in but when I tell you that the stars aligned on that day I had my first class. I wasn’t able to hide my previous experience for long and my coach began to progressively make my individual workouts harder. Weirdly enough, I liked it and I’ve become a regular of the 5:15am crew.

My birthday celebrations basically took over the whole month of December. With the pandemic, my friends and I had mini gettogethers which extended the celebrations past the actual day. It was so sweet and while it wasn’t how I pictured my 30th birthday, I couldn’t have been happier. Christmas was eventful as I had a crazy unexpected health scare but ringing in the New Years with my friends and family made up for it in many ways than one.

There were many rough parts of the year but I’m choosing to focus on the good moments of laughter and joy that I had. With the start of the new year, I’m choosing to move forward with that mindset and can’t wait to see what new adventures await me!

So what am I up to now? Races are still wishy washy for me at the moment and I’ve actually taken up another challenge. My coach has been in my ear about competing in the CrossFit Open and I’m going to give it a shot! It’s a challenge because I’ve only been at the gym for a couple of months but I’m willing to give it a try. It’s truly a competition against myself. I’ve been working hard with lifting and have added accessory work so it’s been a grind. However, it’s something I’m working toward and I can’t wait to give it my all in March and see how much I’ve improved!

Running and Peloton still have my heart and I’ve been doing them for fun lately. I’ve been enjoying my time at the gym despite the bruises and cuts I’ve been getting. Running and riding my bike for fun is truly a de-stressor and it’s helping me meet my goals.

That’s a quick recap of where I’ve been this whole time. I’m hoping to be more active on the blog and share a bit of my journey with lifting and my goals for the year. I’ll definitely share what I’m up to on my Instagram so feel free to follow me there!

How was the last part of your 2020?
