Trying Out Beyond Meat Beef Crumbles

Do you eat a diet of heavy meats and veggies? Are you trying to find a way to reduce the amount of high fat and cholesterol foods you eat? Beyond Beef Crumbles are a meat alternative that is cholesterol, gluten, and soy free! These three reasons are why I decided to try out the Beyond Beef Crumbles.

What is it?

So as the product name suggests, it is not meat from animals. It is a meat substitute made completely from plant protein. I know that most people would probably tell me that there is no substitute for real beef but stay with me for a minute. What if you had a trip to the doctor and they told you that you needed to cut out meat. Yikes! I’m not a vegetarian by any means so going completely meat free would freak me out!

Now I know some people would receive this news and completely re-do their life and would go straight to a plant based diet. That is totally fine but I know that I would personally struggle. That is why I decided to give these a try. Do they really taste like meat?

First Look

So I found these in the freezer aisle at HEB. They are all over the nation in different stores. You can go to their website and see if they are in a store near you by clicking HERE.  There are two options for the beefy crumble, a regular seasoning and a spicy seasoning. They resemble ground beef in the color and texture. These have to stay frozen so they don’t really need to get thawed out before cooking.

When I opened the packaging and poured it into my pan with some oil, the meat crumble did look like ground beef. I added some veggies and seasoning and my husband couldn’t even tell I was cooking the meat substitute.

Taste Test

I liked my food spicy and I tend to season most of my food that way. I noticed that the beefy crumble seemed a bit bland in my opinion but this is good! As we all know, ground beef is the same way unless you seasoning it when you add it to whatever you are cooking. The texture was the same as ground beef and with my veggie mixture, I couldn’t really tell the difference. It wasn’t chewy or weird.

Overall, I think that this would be a great item to introduce into your diet. Just use it as you would with regular ground beef! Make tacos, throw it into nachos, or even add it to chili. It’s really another way to get protein into your meals without the heavy fats and cholesterol.
