Training Update!

Training Update

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. My weekend was nice and relaxing and just what I needed. I’ve had a jam packed week and it was good to slow down a bit. Just as the title says, this post will be a short update on my training and what I’ve been doing lately.

I’ll be the first to admit that my running took a bit of a hiatus for the last part of January going into February. Life happened and the last thing I wanted to do was run. I was also letting my back heal up so I was scared to do anything to make it hurt again. It was almost like something inside of me changed. Slowly, I began to drag myself to my bike and would try to bike on a consistent basis. I’m currently not signed up for any races in the up coming months so as long as I kept my fitness through cycling, I felt okay.

Last Monday I decided to take an FTP test on my Peloton and have decided to shift my focused toward endurance training. I want to get my legs used to running and cycling for a long time and also combine that with solid threshold heart rate. So what does that mean as far as training goes? Here’s my workouts for the last week:

M – Two Mile Run, 20 Minute Arms/Core Workout

T- 45 Minute Tabata Ride, 40 Minute Yoga Flow

W – 60 Minute Crosstraining (Weights/Plyo), Three Mile Run

R – 45 Minute Power Zone Ride, Arms/Core Workout

F- 60 Minute Crosstraining (Weights/Plyo)

Sa – Four Mile Run

Su – 45 Minute Steady State Ride/ Yoga Flow

Obviously, that’s a jam packed schedule and I will need to make sure to schedule rest days going forward. However, I really felt strong in each workout. I think doing a mix of endurance training on the bike and crosstraining will start improving my run times. My goal is to run 10 miles at a threshold pace by the end of the month and I hope that this will get me there.  Also, I plan to take my FTP test again in Mid April and I hope to see some improvement!

This season of life has disrupted my schedule but it has also freed up some time in a weird way. I have more access to parks and running trails so I’m hoping to get out there and use them before the weather gets too hot here in Houston. This is truly my way to build a base before it gets real and I start training for the Chicago Marathon later this year!

Are you currently training for a race? What do your weekly workouts look like?
