Training For Wodapalooza

We are in the middle of the holiday season and it’s also the middle of my training for Wodapalooza. As of the day this post goes live, I am 44 days away from sweating it out in Miami! I’m treating this fitness competition a bit like a race in the way I’ve structured my training. Even with the fun of the holidays I want to continue training and improving. Here’s a bit of what I’m doing as training for Wodapalooza.

Training For Wodapalooza: Dial In Nutrition

Since my training has changed in the last year, I’ve noticed changes in my body. Nothing terrible but I definitely look different than I did when I was training for a marathon. While there’s nothing wrong with that, I want to make sure I don’t bonk during my workouts because of junk food. Without getting obsessive, I’m making sure to eat tasty and nutritious meals. However I’m still enjoying holiday meals like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Plus my birthday is in December and I’ll definitely be eating cake!

Training For Wodapalooza: Work On Weaknesses

Even though I will be competing in the Beginner’s Division, I know that there are movements I’m expected to have under my belt. There’s a swimming event each year so I’m taking lessons to become a stronger swimmer. I’ll also be hanging from my pull up bar more often to work on my grip strength and progress my pull ups. Sure it’s a short amount of time but I believe that this extra work will help me get closer to where I want to be on competition day.

Training For Wodapalooza: Balance Between Work and Recovery

Every week I plan out my workouts. I make sure to include running, cycling, and weight lifting. I also make sure to focus on recovery. Now more than before, I make sure that I give my muscles the rest they need so I don’t burn out before competition day. Each night I’ll get at least a five minute stretch to avoid stiffness. This is in addition to the stretching I do when I finish workouts. I don’t make it a habit to stay up late but sleep is also a big deal for me. Going to bed early helps my body recovery and be able to get through each training session!

Those are just a few of the things I’m doing to get ready for Wodapalooza. I’m very excited for this opportunity and I’m proud of myself for simply getting the chance to go! I can’t wait to see what Miami hold for me!
