Sunblock!

I feel this like is an obvious choice but I still wanted to list it. It’s not uncommon to rush out the door to get in some miles. However, taking the time to apply sunblock is needed! Even though you may want a tan, there are long lasting effects to sun exposure. It’s better to be safe than sorry! These two are great sunblocks for runners. You’ll have to take into account the time you’ll be outside and you may need to reapply. I prefer a moisturizing sunscreen but I’ve also linked a simple sport one!

Clothing!

My mom would always wear BIG hats and long sleeves whenever she would do yard work. I used to roll my eyes and think she was nuts. Now, I think she was onto something! While it can be a bit uncomfortable to be rocking long sleeves, it is a good way to protect your skin! I tend to run with a hat or visor during the summer time to protect my face. Every little bit helps!

Time of Day!

There is a point in the Texas summer where it is legitimately hot all the time. Even at 4am, it’s not uncommon to be in the high 70s. However, there is no sun at that time which is great for your skin! It can be a big annoying to get up early or get your miles in at night but it’s a good way to still run outside, avoid the heat, and protect your skin! If you time it right, you can avoid having as much sun exposure than running in the middle of the afternoon!
