Running While Traveling!

Running While Traveling

Happy Friday friends! I hope your week has been wonderful so far. I’m extra happy this Friday because I am heading to New York City! New York City is so amazing and I didn’t expect to fall in love with it like I did last year. This is only a weekend trip but it will be one full of fun and fitness! Since I’m traveling, I wanted to share a few tips on how to continue running while traveling!

Running While Traveling

Before we even get there, you want to make sure you pack all the essentials. Obviously if you’re going to be pressed for time, don’t stress yourself out trying to get a run in. If you think you can swing it (and you have the room in your suitcase), throw in some running shoes and workout clothes. Make sure to take the essentials but leave behind anything you don’t think you’ll need. Some hotels will even provide yoga mats, foam rollers, and so on so if you don’t HAVE to have it, leave it at home!

Everyone knows that you can go the typical hotel gym and run on the treadmill but where’s the fun in that? Before you set off to your destination, check online and see if there are any running trails nearby. If not, maybe think about running to local monuments and get in some sightseeing that way. If it’s somewhere you’d normally walk to, why not run? That way you get to explore the area and get your run in. Plus, you may be running early enough in the morning that you’ll be beautiful sunrise pictures and not have to worry about crowds, win-win!

Some cities, like NYC, offer running tours. This is awesome because they are guided and will take you to some must see spots and sharing info that you may not have known. Tours may seen a bit silly but I’ve never regretted them. You get to see the city through the eyes of the people that live there and you’re running at the same time! It’s a neat way to explore and you don’t have to worry about about planning your route ahead of time.

So there you have it! No need to slog through some boring treadmill miles. Check out your destination beforehand and see if you can explore while running!
