Running Tips for Beginners!
Happy Monday friends! I know that it’s been a crazy weekend for me but I’m ready to start the week off strong. I hope you are too! Today, I wanted to share a few running tips for beginners. It is summer time and more people tend to head outside more that the days are longer. While these tips are good for beginners, they can help runners of all levels!
Running Tips For Beginners: Don’t Compare
I’m a shorty so my natural stride is much shorter than most of the people I know. Their easy pace is not my easy pace and vice versa. When you’re first starting out, don’t compare. You’re just getting your feet wet and you find that you’ll eventually begin to know what feels good for you. You’re just starting and they’ve probably been at it for a while.
Running Tips For Beginners: Get Involved
Finding a running group that meets once a week is a great way to get to know other runners. A weekly social run will help you find other runners at your level and you can find out about races coming up! Most running stores have group runs or can provide information about running groups in the area. A quick Google search can also help!
Running Tips For Beginners: Get Properly Fitted For Shoes
Obviously, running can get expensive. However if there is ONE item that I would recommend every new runner to splurge on, it would be shoes. Please, please, please, PLEASE wear the proper shoes for running and for your support type. You will avoid injuries and downtime if you do this from the start. Try to go to a local running store to get fitted.
Running Tips For Beginners: Have Fun!
There will come a time where you’ll get the itch to race and see what you’re made of. You may even have a starting goal in mind. However, remind yourself that you run because you enjoy it. Running will allow you to join a big community and you’ll meet many wonderful people along the way!
Those are just a few tips that I have for those on the beginning of their running journey. The more you run, the more you’ll learn. And from one runner to another, welcome to the running family!
