Memorial Day Weekend!
What a weekend! While the weather was cloudy and rainy here in Houston, I still had a blast!
After my blog post on Friday, I had so many wonderful messages and comments left for me here and on Instagram. Thank you all so much! I was determined to have a great weekend and come out much happier.
Saturday
My husband is a HUGE Johnny Depp fan so we saw the newest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean Saturday morning. I really love movie dates with my husband since they played a big role when he and I first started dating.
Afterwards, we hit up REI to take advantage of their anniversary sale since we needed a few things for our river trip next month. Jordan really loves being a member of the Co-Op, haha! We ended up getting a Camelback for him as well since I think I’ll start summer training at the end of June. The running bug has bit me again and I can’t wait to get back out!
While we were at the mall, we tried a restaurant that was new to us called Yard House. I’m not sure if it’s a chain but it was absolutely amazing! There was such a good mixture of food and something for everyone. Jordan had a gourmet pizza and I tried a Mexican torta with an American twist. I have been having issues meeting my macros for the week and have been constantly hungry but this place hit the spot!
We ended the day relaxing and getting excited for our trip as we surveyed all the goodies we bought at REI. Before heading to bed, I did an easy yoga flow to get out all the kinks in my legs. While sitting in a warm bath, I listened to a guided meditation about forgiveness for oneself. It was truly what I needed to hear. I felt all the stress and hurt just wash away. Giving myself enough time to examine and grieve all the things I couldn’t fix helped me move out of that dark spot and move forward. Honestly, that meditation was just what I needed.
Sunday
The humidity was in full effect Sunday morning. It was just a glimpse of Texas summer and I was spent! I didn’t really have a goal for my run other than running for twenty minutes. My pace was quick and steady but I honestly felt so sluggish and gross during the run. I foresee many uncomfortable runs until I get adjusted to the heat and humidity again!
After our morning workout and church, Jordan and I tried another new restaurant for us: Überrito. I definitely indulged with these nachos and promptly fell asleep on the couch when we go home!
Yeah, I somehow thought it would be a good idea to look at the Workout of the Day at the Crossfit gym right after eating those nachos. Let’s just say, I knew I was going to be hurting. I may or may not have crossed my fingers for a torrential downpour so I wouldn’t be able to make it. Just kidding!
Monday
While I had Memorial Day off, my husband did not so after he was off to work, I was off to the trails! I don’t get to run on the trails too often as I run too early in the morning and running in a wooded area in the dark just isn’t smart. The cloudy skies and mugginess didn’t stop this girl!
I ran for thirty minutes and enjoyed every second of it. With only the sound of my foot steps on the ground and the light rain drops, I truly felt at peace. While I rounded back to my car, I even saw a deer a few feet away from me. Y’all, maybe I sound crazy but after that run, my soul was at peace. After such an amazing weekend filled with so many awesome moments, that was just the cherry on top!
I ran home to change and head off to Crossfit! I was way too giddy after my run (and maybe some cold brew) so I was ready for the workout. It was all a partner workout and I was so thankful for such a kind partner. I’m still new to it all and while I’m not out of shape, some of the mechanics of the workouts I’m still trying to understand. It was a longer workout and it took about an hour and a half to finish. Needless to say, after that and my trail run I was TIRED.
I ran some quick errands and got home only to see my husband got off work early! We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and enjoying our extra time together. I got him to help a bit with my meal prep and chores so that was also super nice.
How was your Memorial Day weekend? Are you glad for the short work week ahead?
