Let's Talk About Your Nutrition

I’m sure you’ve heard that 80% of getting healthy is eating well. Okay, well I’m not so sure on the EXACT percentage but I do know that what you eat does have a major impact on your exercise. Whether you are trying to become an endurance athlete, gain muscle, or lean out, you will need to take a hard look at your nutrition. For example, take a car. You wouldn’t expect a high performance car to run at it’s potential if you were to fill up the gas tank with oil. No, you would need to fill up the tank with the exact formula that type of car needs. The same goes for your body!

Let's Talk About Your Nutrition!

Nutrition does not have to be hard! It’s easy to fall into the trap with meal prepping, meal plans, and the like. However, these can come in handy once you know what you are working toward. (Also, as a disclaimer I would like to say that I am not a health professional and can easily refer to a great nutritionist I am working with!) You first need to identify the problem. What is the main reason you are not eating as well as you should be?

Make A Plan

Once you find out why your nutrition is slacking, make a plan to fix it! Whether it’s because you’re not sure what you should be eating or you simply cannot say no to that chocolate cake that is sitting in the break room. Find out what it is and make an action plan for fixing it. Sometimes, we need to be educated on the basics of eating well. Partnering up with a nutritionist or just checking out some healthy cookbooks can guide you in the right direction. Making a plan and sticking to it should be top priority on your list.

Don’t be Afraid To Ask For Help

It’s such a pressure to do everything ourselves and sometimes we just need a helping hand. Partner up with a friend who will help you brainstorm healthy meal ideas and who will check in with you throughout the week. If you have a coworker who is willing to eat lunch with you so you can both avoid that chocolate cake, then even better! Once you start letting people know that you’re working on changing up your nutrition, people will start to pay attention and hold you accountable.

Use All Resources Available To You

I mentioned meal plans earlier in the post. While they’re not a specific meal plan, you have meal kits like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh that can send you all the ingredients you need for a few meals a week. This may be a convenience to you which can reduce the stress. There’s ways to tweak the meal kits so you can get healthier options but you may have to double check that you’re eating as you should be with these.

There’s even websites that will do the meal planning for you! Pair that up with a grocery delivery service or curbside pick up and it’s a great deal for those who are always on the go! Websites like eMeals will send you weekly meal plans and can make adjustments for any dietary restrictions you may have. If you know what changes you need to make in terms of your nutrition, this is a great way to get customization ideas.

What do you think? Do you have some areas in your nutrition that need some help? Any helpful tips for others on the struggle bus?
