July Goals
Happy Friday friends! This has been such a weird week with many people having Wednesday off. However, I totally took advantage of that and stayed home and RELAXED. I had plans but the rain decided to floor Houston and actually cancelled a lot of the events around town. Either way, I’m glad it’s Friday and I’m looking forward to a fun weekend with friends and family!
I wanted to drop in and share my goals for this month. Last month was actually pretty good for me. I hit the miles that I wanted to hit and I was able to make all my runs without any issues. My legs are doing well and keeping up with all the activity so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this continues through July!
July Goals:
- Get back on the nutrition wagon
- Continue to hydrate properly on long runs
- Work on figuring pre-run dinner
- Hit 70 miles for the month
- Add a few easy miles in on travel days
It’s been a good month but the end of June added some weekly meetings to my schedule and of course these meetings are a huge production and usually include lunch. 9 times out of 10, I get out voted when choosing the location and it’s hard to eat well. I’m really hunkering down and planning for some healthy and hearty breakfasts and dinners to keep me on track and help me make better choices. I also need to be more diligent on tracking what I eat because I feel like this helps me assess what made me feel so awful on training runs.
Hydration is a MUST. The heat is so crazy and I’ve been chatting with fellow runners. It sounds awful but 3AM runs may start happening to avoid the sun and get our longer runs in. My eyes are glazing over just typing that but you have to do what you have to do! I’ve gotten a good plan regarding electrolytes and salt tablets so I’m hoping to hone in on that and make sure it works on longer runs.
Back to nutrition! I have my breakfast and gel timing down so now I’m working on figuring out what works best the night before a long run. Since I’ll be traveling to Chicago, I’ll have to think about what food will be easy to find near our motel. I’m thinking a pasta plate with meatballs and a few veggies will work. I’ll have to really hone in on that and give it a try to see how it affects my stomach!
As far as running goes, I’ll be hitting longer runs this month so I’m hoping that 70 will be an easy goal to crush. I’ve been deferring to my bike since it’s hot out and I usually just want to come straight home after being in a car all day. However, I’m going to force myself outside for a short three mile run after a day of driving to get the blood flowing and help me do a nice stretch before my long runs. My trusty Peloton is great but I want to get solid miles under my legs and work on getting those miles in the bank!
Those are my July goals. Nothing too crazy but crossing my fingers for a good month and to continue making strides in my marathon training!
