Injury and Running Update!
How are you doing today friend?! I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far. It’s been a good one for me even though I did have a slow start on Monday. I was very spoiled last week so it may have taken me a second to get back to the usual routine. That being said, I wanted to pop in for a quick update. I noticed that I haven’t touched upon my calf strain much after making the decision to sit out of the Route 66 Half Marathon.
Long story short, I’m better….kind of. My calf issue has cleared up. I have been able to put weight on it and I’m back to weight lifting. There’s no noticeable limp when I walk. However, sitting on my booty for about six weeks has about killed my endurance. Don’t get me wrong, I stayed busy by cross training on my Peloton (hello Tabata challenge!) and weight lifting but it’s a different animal than endurance running. I’ll have to work my way up to comfortably running longer distances again. However, I haven’t lost my speed. I did a quick interval class and I was able to clock in times in the 6 and 7 minute paces.
Here’s the caveat of the whole story. Not too long after my first successful run, I attempted a longer run to help with my endurance. It went well until I stepped funny or something. Here’s the thing, I don’t know what happened and I wasn’t running with any new gear. My left ankle suddenly started hurting and I had to cut the run short. It felt weird but I didn’t think too much of it since I did take time off running. Fast forward a few days after that and I tripped over a dog toy which left my ankle ANGRY. I think the universe is trying to tell me something!
So what now? Basically, I’m taking it a day at a time. With the weather fluctuating every few days here, my motivation to run has honestly been lacking. Now that my ankle is iffy, I don’t care to go outside only to run a few minutes before cutting it short. I know that may sound silly but it’s such an ordeal to get dressed, deal with the dog, and get outdoors. Luckily I’ll be getting my treadmill soon so if all else fails I’ll be walking a lot on it! I’m honestly very happy to be focusing on weightlifting again and crushing my PRs there so I won’t go crazy while waiting to figure this out.
Ever had a weird injury like this happen to you?
