Houston Marathon Recap!

Oh my gosh, I did it! I ran my first marathon! This weekend was such a great weekend and I am still in awe.

I was terribly excited all week about my race and everyone practically knew it lol. It was a busy weekend leading up to the weekend but I enjoyed every little bit of my taper. Focusing on nutrition and keeping busy was on the top of the list.

On Saturday, I woke up excited to hit the Expo. There were so many girls that I have been following on Instagram that I KNEW were going to kill it so that inspired me more! The running community is just full of love and amazing women lifting each other up.

I got my packet and found my name on the runners wall.  It was super fun!

There was also a Wonder Woman skirt that I kept eyeballing. Jordan was sweet enough to get it for me and I was committed to wear it for the marathon. I know you’re not supposed to stray for the plan but this was worth it!

A medal hanger was also in the books! I already had so many medals that I filled it up! It was perfect!

Saturday evening was spent relaxing and watching a Glee marathon with Jordan. It was a great way to relax. We talked about the race plan and any back up plans that needed to happen.

Sunday morning came quickly! I was nervous but excited. The weather looked okay so we packed up and we were off!

I was so nervous but the day was finally here! The beginning of the race was great. I took walk breaks at mile five and ten and I absolutely felt great. The scenery and crowds were so great. I also took a moment each mile and prayed for a different person each mile.

The rain started and it was a life saver. It cooled me down so I honestly wasn’t complaining. The day was unseasonably warm and it was just bad y’all. I got so many comments about my Wonder Woman skirt and they kept me going.

Mile 18 was went it started getting bad. My calves started cramping. The rain stopped and the sun came up. I made friends with the First Aid crew, haha! I had to take more walk breaks than I planned but I didn’t let it derail me. The crew and the crowds were so great and I just kept pushing.

Mile 25 was went the water works started. I was so close and I knew that I had done it. Jordan was close to the finish line and when I saw him, I completely lost it. He’s got a lovely picture of me running and crying, haha!

My time was 5:42. It was a complete hour slower than what I planned but I was still glad. It was wet, hot, humid, blister filled, and crampy marathon BUT I DID IT!

When I got my medal, everyone kept asking if I was okay. That’s what happens when you cry at finish lines! I found Jordan and bawled my eyes out again. I felt so amazing and it was truly surreal.

I have the nastiest blisters ever and will probably hobble for days. I’m still so proud of myself!
