Global Running Day with Friends For Life!

Global Running Day is a day that celebrates all things running. Every year on June 1st, runners take to the roads to celebrate this awesome sport! Here in town, there’s many different running events held by the Houston Marathon Committee. It’s also a chance for runners to sign up to run the race on behalf of a charity!

This year I’m choosing to run the half marathon course of the Houston Marathon and I’ll be doing so in support of Friends For Life animal shelter! This will be my first year running for charity and while going through the list of charities, this one caught my eye. Friends For Life is a no kill animal shelter that does everything possible to get these furry animals into loving homes. I am a HUGE animal lover and immediately knew it was the charity for me!

This year, I’ll be running for my buddy Gumbo! He’s a pitbull and the poor baby was picked up from another shelter by Friends For Life because he had a gunshot wound in his leg. He received the best medical care and is now healthy and looking for a home! He’s a HUGE lap dog and showers everyone with love. By running my race, I hope to raise awareness for Friends For Life and maybe even find this guy a home! He’s had a few meet and greets and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’ll find his home soon!

This year, I’ll be running my miles on Global Running Day with Gumbo and all the animals at the Friends For Life shelter in mind. My hope is that other runners will be inspired to sign up for the Houston Marathon and run for charity. There are so many wonderful causes to support and they make fundraising super easy! Running is a great way to get moving but it’s also a wonderful way to help others!

Here’s my fundraising page for the race! It’s still a few months away but you can never start too soon!

How will you be celebrating Global Running Day?
