Find Your Play!
One of my favorite things to tell people when they are starting to workout but aren’t quite sure where to stay is: find your play!
What Does That Mean?
Okay, think back to when you were a little kid. What was your favorite thing to do? Did you ride your bike for hours after school? Did you run around and play cops and robbers? Or was climbing and doing the monkey bars your favorite thing to do?
Now, how would that look for you today as an adult? If you liked bike riding as a child, why not get a bike and go for a ride now? Bike riding is such a good way to get your cardio in and it doesn’t even feel like a workout. A good way to start is with a leisurely stroll and then you can move on to different terrain or trails as you see fit!
If you loved to run around, why not try workouts that include running? Maybe crossfit or bootcamp classes are for you. You get to be outside or in an open environment which can be a big change from being stuck in a cubicle all day. You get to get your running in as well as different workouts that are sure to get your heart pumping.
And I haven’t forgotten about you, little monkey! If you like climbing and are stuck in the city like I am, there are SO many options to try. Again, group fitness classes can help you and heavy lifting might be fun for you. If not, there’s so many gyms that have indoor climbing walls. They have different walls depending on levels and it’s such a great way to get started. If you’re able to take it to the outdoors, then you can combine it with a hike and you have a great day full of activity.
Finding your play will make exercise more enjoyable. You’ll have fun and stay fit at the same time! What’s one way you incorporate your “play” into your exercise routine?
