Eating Healthy At Work

Let’s be honest, not everyone has the time (or budget) to hit up Panera, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods during lunch to grab a healthy bite to eat. Heck, I work in an industrial part of town where there is very little food around! Eating healthy at work doesn’t have to be hard! Here are a few things I do that make it easy for me to stay on track during the day.

Plan Ahead

Because I work in a part of town that doesn’t have much around it, this is key. I need to make sure I have enough food to get me through the day before I find myself in front of the vending machines (we just got these last week, so tempting!). For me, planning ahead means sitting down and writing my meals down for the week. This takes practice, but I promise that it will make it so much easier than rushing around in the morning trying to grab stuff and go. I have a planner dedicated solely to planning all my meals for the week ahead. You can go this route or simple make a list of meals you plan to me. This also helps you build a grocery list!

Pack Your Lunch Beforehand

Again, I have a set schedule for my mornings so I try to get this done the night before. Depending on the recipe, I prep my lunch the night before and place it all in my lunch box. I set it in the fridge so it’s the first thing I see in the morning. I don’t EVER forget my lunch (food = life) but if this is a problem for you, packing your bag the night before should get you in the habit of grabbing it before you head out the door!

Make Food Ahead Of Time

If you’re a planner, this is where you shine! Meal prepping has seriously saved me. This can be done a number of ways. You can take a day of the week (preferably Sunday) and make your meals for the week. If you’re making stew or soup, make a big batch and put into containers for the week. If you’re making salads, make chop up all your veggies and mix and match for the week. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures on Instagram of people’s meals for the week. It’s truly easy and I credit this to my success. Investing in some ziplock containers will make it a breeze to get these done.

Snack Healthy

It’s so easy to reach for the bag of chips and candy when you sit at a desk all day like me. I would make an effort to grab a bag of trail mix during your next grocery trip and separate it into smaller portions. Keeping these at your desk or work station will make it easier for you to choose a healthy snack and once you’re done with your portion, you won’t over indulge! Nuts, seeds, granola, or dried fruit are some of my favorite snacks to keep on hand whenever I need a bit more food.

Sitting all day at a desk or driving all over town doesn’t leave much time for activity but you can prioritize eating healthy! By following these simple steps, you are more likely to eat healthier throughout the day. Little changes like these add up and paired with a good workout plan, you’ll be crushing your goals in no time!
