Diva’s Half Marathon Race Plan!

Diva's Half Marathon Race Plan

Happy Friday friends! We’ve made it to the weekend. I’ve been extra excited this week because I am FINALLY racing. It seems like such a long time coming for me. After Chicago I was in a cycle of trial and error and this time, it’s finally happening! Training has gone well and I’m here to share my race plan for the weekend!

Diva's Half Marathon Race Plan!

This Saturday, I will be running the Diva’s Half Marathon in Galveston. I’ve actually run this race in the past and it currently hold my half marathon PR. It’s been a while since I’ve run it and I actually got my last tattoo in celebration of it. It looks like the weather will cooperate this time around so I’m excited! I am also celebrating by watching Avenger’s Endgame Sunday afternoon.

This training cycle, even though it was short was a good one for me. It challenged me in ways that I haven’t been challenged in a while. Getting faster was my goal since distance really hasn’t been an issue for me. I truly believe that I am an endurance runner and that while my genetics may work against me at some point, I want to see how fast I can get! The race plan for this weekend is to run comfortably but pick it up toward the end. My easy runs have been coming in a bit faster than last year so it’s a good sign. I also have a better grip of what efforts feel like to me and what true paces are. Physically, my body is there so I just need to get my mind around it!

My goal for this race is to have an official race result under two hours. At the Chicago Marathon (which is and will probably be my favorite race ever) I actually hit the halfway mark under two hours. Everything felt good back then and obviously I still had enough gas in the tank for more miles. This weekend, I want to completely expend myself to get that result. My plan is to start in a comfortable effort and then gauge my energy at miles 8 and 10. If I’m feeling it, I’ll start picking it up little by little on the last miles and beat the clock.

Overall, I’m excited to see how it goes and to really run my little heart out! I will be back Monday with a full race recap!

Are you racing this weekend too? Which race are you doing?
