Christmas In July Race Recap!

Christmas In July Race Recap

Happy Monday friends! Today’s post is coming at you a little later than usual because life happened! I hope your day has been fabulous so far and that you’re crushing those goals! I wanted to hop in and share a bit of my experience at the Christmas in July 5k this past weekend. I normally don’t do 5k races and I went into this race with no time goals. This race was simply a fun run with some friends enjoying the fun Christmas music!

Christmas In July Race Recap

The Christmas in July 5k is a race held every year in Houston that supports the Houston Salvation Army. The race is an affordable 5k which has the 1k race option for kids as well. Not only that, but it’s a 5k race that offers a a festive finisher’s medal. It’s a fun race that supports a great cause and will become one of my yearly traditions for sure!

Christmas In July Race Recap

Like I mentioned before, I normally don’t do races like this but my fellow blogger friend Coppelia mentioned that she loves doing this race. This girl is connected with so many people in the Houston area and she knows some of the people who work in putting this event together. We invited Kelly who is another of our awesome blogger friends to join us! We planned to dressed up but again life happened so we all did our bests to have SOMETHING festive on us on race day. I managed to get a fun tutu from Party City and found some green clothing items and just rolled with it. We truly didn’t take ourselves seriously and were out there to have fun and just catch up with each other. Coppelia brought her kiddos to race with us and we all just had a fun time!

Christmas In July Race Recap

Let me tell you, it’s absolutely weird to have Christmas music playing while you’re running in 90 degree weather in July in Houston. However, I had a smile on my face the whole time! There were so many fun Christmas outfits from elves to reindeer and the atmosphere was just so nice. I have to give a shout out to the team from the Salvation Army who organized this race. They may not boast some crazy record breaking attendance but the race ran so smoothly! From packet pick up to post race goodies, everything was easy to find and all the volunteers were extremely helpful. The course was a nice and clear course through the streets of Downtown/Midtown with police officers at every intersection. The course was well marked and we had no issues finding water along the way. I took off with Coppelia’s kiddos at the start but we all ended up finding our way back to each other toward the end. We enjoyed delicious breakfast tacos, coffee, fruit, and Kind Bars as we waited for the award ceremony. I have to say, there were some speedy people in attendance! Overall, it was truly a nice day to have a theme race like this and I can’t wait to do it again with these ladies again next year!

Have you ever run a race and dressed up in theme?
