August Running Goals!

August Running Goals

Happy Friday friends! It sure has been a while since I’ve popped in for a post about goals. That’s mostly because I felt it would get repetitive after a while since I was really chasing toward a faster half marathon time and such. However, got some advice this week that is causing me to regroup and re-strategize so I figured I would share my goals for the month!

Like I covered in my Mid-Year Running Recap from earlier in the week, my routine has been pretty consistent. If there’s anything you can expect from me, it’s consistency. Once I get in my routine, I’m sticking to it. Running has been an average of abour 20-25 miles a week with added speedwork and strength training has been all about that progressive overload. I’ve been some awesome leaps and bounds and have been feeling great…..until I wasn’t.

I’ve actually been dealing with a niggle for about two weeks. My left shin feels…weird. Pain but only occasionally. The first few days I was in denial because it only hurt when I was doing speed work. Everything else felt fine. I mentioned it to my coach and we went with the “wait and see” approach. Nothing hurt and I was very speedy so I just kept at it. However, the pain persisted and while it’s not TERRIBLE, it’s still there. That means there’s something going on. It may be the added stress of speed work and a whole number of things. However, giving it a bunch of TLC and taking time from running will give us a better idea of what’s going on. So that’s where I’m at. Not back to the starting point but just pausing for the moment.

My goal for August is to continue with everything else but running. I’m going to be doing ALL the strength work and biking and everything else my little heart desires while making sure to rest my leg. I also want to keep a positive head space and not fall into the trap of “I’m going to lose all my hard work”. My coach reassured me that that is not the case. We will continue to work hard and just adjust as needed. Hopefully, this will help me understand my body mechanics a bit better and learn so we can move forward!

August Running Goals:

  1. Continue exercise regiment
  2. Stay on top of physical therapy exercises
  3. Avoid negative self-talk

Just a few goals for the month but I think they are going to be good ones to work on! Our bodies are amazing and I have no doubt that I will be back to running in no time! I’m staying hopeful and looking forward to the first sprint without any issues again!
