27 Things That Running Has Taught Me

Happy Friday friends! I hope you have a wonderful week. My week has been great and I’m excited that it’s almost the weekend because tomorrow’s my birthday! It’s actually my husband’s birthday today so it’s definitely birthday week for us, haha! I figured I would have a fun post today which a few things that running has taught me. This year has been a crazy one for me. It’s a new season of life with a few bumps in the road but I’m incredibly grateful for it all! Since I’m turning 28 tomorrow, let me share with you 27 things that running has taught me this year!

Running Birthday

  1. I can actually run 7 minute miles if I just get out of my head.
  2. Running with people isn’t so bad.
  3. Turns out I have a high pain tolerance and ran a marathon with a calf strain, haha!
  4. It is very possible to do a double digit run and follow it up with an hour long spin class, although not advisable
  5. Marathon fatigue is another level of tired.
  6. Training for a race doesn’t have to be lonely.
  7. There are people who are willing to run 15 miles with you even though they aren’t training for anything.
  8. Nothing tastes better after a summer long run than a cold pickle.
  9. Nothing tastes better DURING a summer long run than salted watermelon GU.
  10. It is completely possible to get through a marathon training cycle without injury.
  11. It is completely possible to finish a marathon and feel amazing afterwards.
  12. I’m stronger than I give myself credit for and can push to knock out my fastest miles to date.
  13. Running more miles during the week does not make me a better or faster runner.
  14. People will roll their eyes on the fact that I only ran three times a week during the latter part of training.
  15. Weight lifting and cycling made me a better runner.
  16. Nutrition plays a critical role in my running.
  17. Running by effort and ignoring pace is so much better for my sanity.
  18. The amount of dirty workout clothes double in the summer for some reason.
  19. Compression boots are a life saver.
  20. Being daring in my running goals helps me becoming daring in other things.
  21. Missing training runs or cutting them short is not the end of the world.
  22. Running is different things to me depending on which season of life I’m in.
  23. I can be part of the #sportsbrasquad even though I’m not a size 0
  24. I know who I am as a person so if what I wear to workout in offends you, that’s a personal problem.
  25. My dream races aren’t the common ones and that’s okay.
  26. A marathon is a marathon, regardless of elevation or descent.
  27. Running friends are the best friends.

Well, there you have it! This has been a great year for me when it comes to running. Even with the hiccup these last few months, I still love running and all the doors it’s opened for me. Here’s to another awesome year!
