2021: My Year In Bling!

We are nearing the end of the year and I love seeing everyone’s recaps. It’s fun to see all the milestones and goals everyone achieved this year. I’m in the middle of training so I kind of have the blinders on but looking back at 2021 to write this blog post really made me happy. While I didn’t run a whole slew of races this year, it was a good balance for me. However seeing every one crush it and all the races coming back, I’m slowly getting the urge to sign up again. Either way, here’s my year in bling!

2021: My Year In Bling

April: Blue Bell Fun Run

This was a spur of the moment race. About an hour or so from Houston there is the famous Blue Bell Creamery. I’ve known about this race but never did it. This year, I brought it up to my husband who was very excited when he heard free ice cream. The start of the race was downhill so I got very excited and quickly regretted it when there was a HUGE hill right before the third mile. I remember texting Jordan a picture of the hill with the words “I’m walking.” Hills aside, I had so much fun and Jordan and I made ourselves sick trying out a bunch of the ice cream flavors at the creamery itself.

May: Hyrox Dallas

This wasn’t a race but I’m putting it here because I’m proud of finishing this, BY MYSELF. My two friends ran it as a team and were able to trade off at each obstacle. Needless to say, it was a tough day. Hyrox is part obstacle course and part race. It was the first time I had ever done it and I don’t think I’ll do it again as an individual. My butt was sore for so many days! It was humbling but I’m proud of myself for finishing it.

July: Lemonade Dash 5k

This is the race that made me question my planning abilities. I decided to run a race IN THE MIDDLE OF HOUSTON SUMMER. It was only a 5k but it wasn’t really fun. Houston summer is very hot and even at 8am, it’s unbearable. I did my best but didn’t come close to a PR. This is when I pivoted my focus and decided to dedicate more time to strength.. To this day, I think that was the best decision I could have made.

November: Houston Turkey Trot 5k

Before COVID, I ran this race with a couple of friends. This year we planned to do the same since it was finally back in person however, life threw a curveball at us. Two of my friends were extremely sick and one wasn’t able to make it race morning. The morning of the race, there was a torrential downpour and I wasn’t able to find my running group. It turns out I saw everyone EXCEPT the girls I was going to run with. Either way, I ran the race, got soaked, and built up an appetite for an awesome Thanksgiving feast!

That’s my year in bling. It’s probably not as busy as some of my other friends but I’m very happy with it. While races may have taken a bit of a backseat for me, strength training hasn’t. I have many milestones when it comes to my lifting and huge PRs that I’m proud of. I’m excited to see everything my friends were able to achieve this year and I’m looking forward to what 2022 brings!
